Swedish Gambling Regulator To Make Changes Regarding Advertisements

Swedish Gambling Regulator To Make Changes Regarding Advertisements

The gambling industry has always been very appealing to people because it is entertaining and yet they could potentially fill their pockets if luck is on their side.

Looking from this perspective, things seem rather idyllic, but let’s not forget the most important message this industry must send to its users – playing responsibly is always the number one priority!

Spelinspektionen to Incorporate New Rules:

When it comes to Sweden and the gambling industry, their biggest protector is surely Spelinspektionen, which represents a regulator who is now on a mission to introduce some changes in this field.

Namely, they asked for stricter advertisement regulations in this country, hence, they suggested several ideas that are going to help decrease the amount of gambling ads.

Furthermore, they completely support the formalization of a collaboration deal with the country’s Konsumentverket consumer agency.

What Will These Changes Do?

Ultimately, these brand-new ideas will distribute duties between the two bodies and they will also better organize the forms of information exchange as well as consultation.

Furthermore, there aren’t any details regarding the quantity or lasting of these ads, the only thing that’s advisable is for operators to consult with Konsumentverket to make sure that they are moderate as far as advertising is concerned.

Those who decide to go against these regulations could be faced with some serious warnings as well as punishments, or in some cases, a loss of license.

The regulator gave more details about these modifications and rules:

“A violation of the requirement of moderation is typically considered to be serious. The sanction that may be applicable in an individual case depends on several different factors, such as how long the infringement has been going on.”

Patrik Gustavsson, Chief of Operations at Spelinspektionen, added:

“The clarity we achieve with the agreement benefits the supervision as we ensure that important issues do not end up between the two entities.”

Granted 116 Licenses:

On a more positive note, up until March this year, they approved 116 licenses. Approximately, 62 have been given for online commercial games, including online casinos and online video slots.

On the other hand, 44 of them were intended for commercial betting, such as classic betting and betting on horses.

The rest (five of them) were granted for land-based commercial games, meaning, for instance, a casino at a restaurant.

It looks like a couple of licensees received more than one, since the number of licensees at that moment, was seventy-two.
