These days, one of the leading online gaming operators from Malta, Casumo, is dealing with a serious issue.
Namely, Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit, has fined them with €310,000 for targeting users from this country without any permit.
What Exactly Did They Do?
According to some information that was coming from the regulator, Casumo was offering various deals precisely to players from this country, such as iDeal that is the most famous payment method and it is frequently used for online transactions.
To make things worse, further research showcased that the live chat they’ve been using on the website was giving people answers all in Dutch.
Online Gambling & Netherlands:
For the time being, online gambling is forbidden in this country, however, it looks like in the nearest future things will drastically change when it comes to this.
Recently, the country’s senate has finally allowed the Remote Gaming Act, meaning that this decision will speed things up as far as the iGaming regulation is concerned.
KSA chairman, Rene Jansen, commented on this recent event by stating:
“The current Betting and Gaming Act does not offer the possibility to grant a license to be allowed to offer online games of chance.
With the current law, we cannot protect consumers against unfair play. Nor is it possible to control the prevention of gambling addiction and the participation of vulnerable groups such as minors.
Fortunately, with the entry into force of the new Remote Gambling Act, we will have the opportunity to do so.”
Casumo Not The Only One:
Even though this news may come as a surprise to many, this operator is not the only one that has wronged someone.
Namely, they may be the latest in a slew but definitely not the only ones. For instance, in recent months, several casinos were punished too. Highly-reputable operators like MRG, Betsson Group subsidiary, Corona Ltd, 1xBet and William Hill have experienced similar forms of punishment.
Furthermore, KSA incremented their fines for all unlicensed online gambling activities due to the fact that the ones that were already constituted were not big enough.
On the other hand, the fine was issued to Casumo by the UKGC a few months ago was drastically bigger in comparison to this one.
Back then, they were charged with almost six million Euros for not placing suitable risk assessment processes in place to define whether their iGaming offerings could be used for illegal purposes.
