Citizens from Sweden to Ban Gaming Ads

Citizens from Sweden to Ban Gaming Ads

Ads that are in correlation with gambling sometimes send a wrong message that can appear as if they are forcing people to participate.

Obviously, people from Sweden share the same opinion, hence, most of them recently stated that they are against such ads.

What’s The Reason Behind This Attitude?

A survey was recently conducted by Sifo that showcased over 50% of people from this country want to forbid gaming ads. On the other hand, 30% are not as drastic as the others.

They do not necessarily think that advertisement must be prohibited but they would surely like to decrease their amount.

According to the Swedish gaming portal, Svenska-casino.online, minister of Civil Affairs, Ardalan Shekarabi, was the one who started this topic by saying that such commercials must be restricted during live sports broadcasts.

They have obviously decided to take the same steps the United Kingdom took last December. Since these reports showcase that the majority of people support this attitude towards gambling, Sweden may end up just like them.

It’s worth mentioning that this entire situation can cause some negative effects towards gaming companies from this country. Still, they have to keep in mind that these ads are upsetting the public therefore, something has to be done about it.

Other Questions From This Survey:

Besides the ones we mentioned above, there are some others linked to this topic. The one that stood among the rest was related to the tightening of gambling advertising.

Namely, 76% of people were totally for it. Sixteen of them partially agreed, while 87% of them stated that there are too many gambling ads in the country.

All these things showcase that the public strongly believes in this decision, which will surely affect both politicians and regulators in Sweden.

The Situation Remains The Same:

These opinions haven’t changed. According to some reports done in 2018, citizens of this country had exactly the same attitude towards this subject.

Furthermore, only 1% of them thought that gambling ads were credible. This research included all business segments.

Jenny Nilzon, CEO of the Swedish Gambling Association, said that she completely understands the frustration among people however, she also accentuated that the new economic reality in the country necessitated these actions.

Mrs. Nilzon added that “free competition means that you must be able to market your goods and services.”

What Now?

No one knows for sure what the future will bring when it comes to this issue. The minister of Civil Affairs, Ardalan Shekarabi, held a meeting with all 69 gambling license holders in Sweden in order to talk about this topic.

Moreover, the future still seems pretty uncertain for the marketing teams of corporations from this country.

This whole idea of forbidding ads could potentially cause problems and pressure to gambling operators from other parts of the world.
