MGA Teams Up With Police To Jointly Stand Against Illegal Activities In The Gambling Industry

It often seems like issues revolving around illegal gambling are never-ending. Authorities from various countries are continuously trying to find useful solutions that are going to help them decrease it.

MGA To Team Up With Police:

This time, Malta Gaming Authority decided to take matters into their own hands and do something about this. Namely, it has come to the realization that things are out of control and that it may potentially jeopardize its citizens.

While countries like Spain and Norway are working on similar issues, such as banning gambling advertisements, Malta, on the other hand, is collaborating with local law enforcement with an aim to completely get rid of illegal gambling.

What’s the Plan?

Their first step towards these important changes was to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Malta Police with a goal to uproot this difficulty. Even though this country has already taken crucial steps to weed out criminals in order to revive the lost tax revenue, this document is going to help them speed up the entire process.

This brand-new collaboration should prove beneficial, especially because now, both sides are planning on enhancing the level of cooperation and exchanging information that proves useful for this concrete situation.

The commissioner of the Maltese Police, Lawrence Cutajar, commented:

“In an ever-changing complex world, policing has become more challenging, necessitating the establishment of solid partnerships with other government agencies and NGOs as well as with society in general, this in order to ensure effective law enforcement throughout.

The signing of this MOU with the MGA is one in a string of initiatives which the Malta Police Force under my charge has embarked upon over the past months, aimed at combating criminality in general, whilst it goes to show our strong commitment to tackling two of the most challenging crime categories, namely financial and computer-related crime.”

The head of the MGA, Heathcliff Farrugia, gave more details on the collaboration:

“This Memorandum of Understanding will continue to strengthen the good relationship there is between the MGA and the MPF. Apart from having a closer collaboration, through this MOU, both parties are also agreeing to share their respective knowledge and to formally provide technical training to each other. This agreement is testament to the ongoing efforts of the two entities in continuing their fight against illegal gaming activities in Malta.”
